Begonia's Graceful Tears: An Emotional Symphony in Motion

Undoubtedly, the most famous plant known for its “weeping” characteristic is the weeping willow. However, aside from the weeping willow, there exists another plant called the weeping begonia, which we will be discussing today. Despite having other plants like silk begonia, weeping cherry, weeping plum, etc., the weeping willow still remains more enchanting and hence, more popular.

The mention of Begonia dates back to the Tang Dynasty in “Hundred Flowers”. The term “Sea” implies it’s a foreign plant and not native. Hence, Begonia is an imported species. Initially, “Tang” only bloomed flowers but didn’t bear fruit. However, it eventually transformed into a woody plant with attractive flowers and inedible fruits.

As time went by, the begonia plant gained increasing admiration and adoration. During the Song Dynasty in China, it became a customary ornamental tree and various types of begonias were cultivated through horticulture.
